Usability/UX
Writing, information design, and translation are all highly user-centered.
When I was the documentation organization representative in a base station usability group at Nokia, I learned the basics of usability as a discipline, participating e.g. in a SW UI usability test, and a Usability conference at the Oulu University, and investigating the elements of usability in our documentation.
In 1997, I moved to the Nokia Networks UX organization as a documentation specialist, and our aim was doing research into the UX aspects of documentation to improve the user experience. Unfortunately, this work was stopped pretty soon due to a major organizational change.
